Walk the Talk

WALK THE TALK is Bricolage's new arts education program, which takes advantage of our theatre's close proximity to several high schools to invite students to walk over, see a Bricolage production, and then participate in a number of interactive educational activities in response to the performance.

Generously funded by the Grable Foundation and the Buhl Foundation, the program was launched in May 2010 in conjunction with our production of Speech & Debate by Stephen Karam.  The play is about the limits of expression forced upon youth and about the social, political, and sexual challenges faced by teens today.  It was thus an ideal production with which to engage young people.

After seeing the play, students engaged in panel discussions with Pittsburgh community leaders as well as activities in which they were able to try their hands at playwrighting and performing.

Following the success of the 2010 pilot program, Bricolage intends to continue offering the program every year in conjunction with our spring production.  We will continue to expand the program to additional schools in the area to reach as many students as possible and share with them our love of theater.
